About Skin Infections
Skin infections like school sores (impetigo), infected cuts/wounds, cellulitis, bite wounds and scabies are common. These infections, caused by bacteria, can lead to redness, pain, pus, swelling, or itching. Some are contagious or may need antibiotics to treat the infection and prevent worsening or complications.

We can treat patients aged 6 months and over with mild skin infections or suspected scabies.

- Scabies treatment and contact advice if appropriate

Caring for your skin at home
- Take all medicines as prescribed and finish the full course.
- Wash your hands regularly and keep the area clean and dry.
- Avoid scratching, tight-fitted clothing over the affected skin, or sharing towels or bedding.
What to expect
- You should see improvement within 2–3 days of treatment.
- Redness or itching may take a little longer to fully settle.
When to come back
- If symptoms worsen or spread.
- If you develop fever or feel generally unwell.
- If there’s no improvement within 72 hours.
